I am a 53 year old male who had APD as long as I can remember. As a child I was very shy. I hated going to family or any social gatherings. I always feared being rejected or criticized by people I knew. I become very attached the things I have and people I know. I always have this great desire to be liked by people. I love to make people laugh and I am very good at it. I guess that is my way of making sure I am liked. I have a low self esteem but lately that seems to be getting better. I am starting to realize I am smarter than a lot of others. I suffer from terrible anxiety, especially if I misplace or loose something. The part about disliking social events goes back along time I can remember being that way when my father was alive. I am 53 and he died when I was 7. I have lived in the same city all my life. As a matter of fact in the same borough. I now live no more than 3 miles where I was born 53 years ago. Like I said I have a difficult time with change. I also think I have a slight case of obsessive compulsive disorder. It does not interfere with my life but I check things more than the average person would. A few years back I was put on Prozac that helped with anxiety somewhat. My wife has BPD (borderline personality disorder) we have been married 20 years. She had been hospitalized many times for depression, but I always stuck by her. Like I said I become very attached to people. Recently she had a giant cyst removed from her ovaries. Since then she has become very stable. She does not go into depression anymore.
